Brass to John Wyther and his iwfe

John Wyther d. 1495 and his wife were burgesses of Dunster and wealthy enough to have a brass memorial in the church but he appears to have been an ‘incomer’, possibly from the Gloucestershire family. Were his ancestors warriors, the common explanation of his surname, or does his name derive from a place or from withy or might it be a corruption of a Welsh name?
