1901 census

Population had fallen again to 319. Sir Richard Martin had inherited Upton Grey House and employed 10 domestic servants. George Limbrey, Lord Basing at Hoddington House employed 12 servants, including a governess and a butler to look after his wife and two daughters. Occupations remained mainly farming and rural trades. There were 17 carters. Gamekeepers had doubled in number to four since 1891 suggesting more sporting activity. Ann Smith kept a sweetshop.
