1871 Census

The population for this census had risen again to 302 but still with seven aged paupers. The parish still included Holt and six farms totalling 536 acres. One farmer also ran a brickyard and another was a machinist. There continued to be a strong presence of wheelwrights and blacksmiths. An agricultural engineer from the 1861 census was now hiring himself out as a thrashing machine labourer. This together with the presence of hay binders indicated that the parish was arable rather than given over to pasture. The rector was listed for the first time. A journeyman miller was living at Water End. Sales Farm was probably Searles Farm.
