1861 census

The population decline continued. 371 people lived in Upton Grey. Over 90% were still born in Hampshire. The largest occupation group was still agricultural labourer; they and other workers on the land totalled 82 out of a total of 230 workers, just over a third of the total. There were 40 in-house servants and 30 tradespeople to service the needs of the community.
