In the 1820s and 30s if you looked north from Basingstoke town centre two structures would dominate the top of the slope north of the River Loddon.

Benjamin Lansdown was born in Trowbridge in 1819 and was the son of a woollen mill employee.

First cathedral was built between 1075 & 1092 by the Bishop Osmond a larger building was on the site circa 1120.

The railway through Salisbury served different areas: the local market (the Market house line & the Bishopstoke line) the area around Salisbury
