Will and Inventory of Richard Jeyes, yeoman 1693

Jeyes was a wealthy man with an inventory totalling £570 15s. including 289 sheep and lambs, 240 acres of crops and 11 horses and harnesses. He left a farm in Cliddesden to one son and a house in Basingstoke with fields on the commons to another. Both were to pay their mother £12 per annum and have five horses each to work the land. His inventory described 1,500 cheeses in his shop together with scales and weights. He had a looking glass in one of the chambers, a recognised symbol of status at the time.
