Will of Hugh White, apothecary 1688

White was an apothecary with considerable assets in the town and in neighbouring parishes. He left 82 acres in Ellisfield to his eldest son Richard and 45 acres in Hurstborne Priors to younger son John. John also inherited the shop and dwelling house in London Street, Basingstoke. Both sons were to pay their mother a total of £17 half yearly during her life. Unfortunately no inventory survives and his will does not give any insight into his profession.
