Will of William Smith, butcher 1685

Smith was a butcher who had considerable premises in nearby Ellisfield which he bequeathed to his wife, brother (a maltster), his cousin (a woollen draper) and a friend, an ironmonger. They were to sell the properties if necessary to cover the £500 that he willed to his four daughters and two sons. The same beneficiaries were instructed to receive the rent and profit from his four properties in Basingstoke to pay to a third son.
