Will of William Wither, clerk 1656

Wither made a will in 1646 whilst parson of Dummer and Fellow of St Mary’s College, Winchester, (Winchester College), claiming to be infirm of body. In it he made provision for his wife and daughter from lands he held in Tadley and Andover as well as other bequests. Wither lived for a further ten years and died in 1656, still a Fellow of St Mary’s College but no longer rector of Dummer. His second will was proved during the Protectorate of Oliver Cromwell. He left £3 to the poor of Dummer and £5 for books for St Mary’s College library. Sadly, his wife and daughter had pre-deceased him.
