Will, Inventory and Renunciation of John Soper, yeoman 1621

Soper’s will indicated that he was living in a large house (9 rooms) and named many fields and pastures in bequests. He also had built his own house. He had 82 sheep, quantities of wool and crops but also appears to be dealing in timber with a saw pit and items required for cart and plough construction. His inventory was valued at £138 17s. He nominated his wife and son Phillipe to be executors, who declined to carry out their duties and passed responsibility to another son, William. Soper stated his belief that he would be saved by the passion of Jesus Christ and owned a bible and requested burial in Dummer church at his pew end.
