Will and Inventory of John Davies senior clothier, 1680

Davies senior was a clothier, but although his inventory listed two looms and five pairs of shears he appears to have turned to the newer industry of brewing malt and probably ran a hostelry as he had a very well stocked kitchen and malthouse. This may reflect the downturn in the clothing industry in the area. He farmed 37½ acres of crops and left his wife an annuity of £10 arising from property held in Basingstoke
