Will and Inventory of George Wither/Withers, husbandman, 1584

Withers/Wethers was a widower who requested to be buried in the church yard of Dummer near to his wife. He made bequests of money and sheep to three of his sons and two granddaughters as well as to his servants, godchildren and landlord. His land in Wootton St Lawrence, East Oakley and Kempshott was left to his son Gilbert (d. 1599), presumably the eldest. Another son, Raynold, was bequeathed a malt mill and equipment to grind and dry grain. His inventory totalled £129 17s. 4d. and listed 60 acres of crops, 124 sheep, fleeces, six ploughing horses, musket and longbow.
