Will of Margaret Deane 1583

Deane made her will in 1574 but recovered from her illness and lived until 1583. She was a woman of property, but only the will survives. Her son Henry was named her chief heir and executor, with whom she jointly owned animals and who probably farmed the land at Deanlands just east of the village. Margaret lived in the village and left the lease of Nockets (location unknown), household goods, animals and crops to her son Richard to be delivered to the vicarage at Basing. She also left other small bequests to other family members, and four bushels of wheat to be baked by Michaelmas for the poor, also 2d. to the cathedral and requested her burial to be in Basing.
