Early false teeth

Early dentures were made of cadaver teeth but the introduction of porcelain teeth in the 19th century provided an impetus to such procedures as bridgework. Dental manufacturers in the United Kingdom and the United States of America competed to secure sales of false teeth and often showered dentists with samples like these. Many were thrown out and turn up around the sites of former dental surgeries!
These samples are from England, above, and USA, below, and were found in the garden of a former dental surgery in Weston super Mare and are part of the dental collection at the South West Heritage Trust.
