Will and Inventory of John Hannington/Hanington, 1571

Hannington/Hanington left a simple dedication at the start of a long, complex will. He left three underage sons under the charge of his widow Margaret, his executrix with his eldest son. He made provision for the two younger sons and instructions about inheritance should any of them die or his wife remarry. Unusually, he named properties and fields. He remembered his godchildren and his servants, leaving them an animal. His inventory suggested a substantial mixed farm but with a big acreage of wheat. A tod of wool and implements to process it were listed, also his armour and a bow and arrows – perhaps for service in the militia. Total value £121 17s. 4d.
