Inventory of William Hawtrell, carpenter, 1571

Only the inventory survives for Hawtrell but it is very detailed. A carpenter like his father William (d. 1562), he would seem to have prospered and had interests other than his own trade and small farm. Equipment for brewing and making cheese is not unusual for those days of self-sufficient housekeeping, but he had 30 cheeses and six quarters of malt, also yards of cloth as well as wood-working tools. Valued at £57 14s. 7d.
