Will and inventory of Joan Clarke, widow, 1559

Clarke was a widow but may have been married twice as she left wheat in Herriard to her son Robert Clement. She honoured her deceased husband Rychard Clarke’s bequest to leave property to her son Edward. The residue of her belongings were divided between a third son and two daughters. Her inventory amounted to £35 and lists woodworking tools, 78 sheep and 10 pigs, suggesting her land was on the chalkland.
