Will of William Blunden, clothier, 1646

Blunden was a very substantial clothier and a farmer. Dual occupations were quite common at this period. He had many acres of land in Basingstoke and also in various locations in the county of Hampshire. His business premises in Basingstoke included his house, barn, wool house and plot, dye-house, workshops. He employed people to work in ‘his house’, presumably in his clothing and dyeing businesses. Although no inventory survives, some idea of his personal possessions can be gleaned from his detailed bequests.
