1861 Census

The whole of the parish of Nately Scures commencing at and including Huish Farm and cottages near thence to and taking the cottages near Water End thence to Scures Farm thence to the cottages in the lane near the Parsonage thence to and taking the cottages on the farther or eastern side of Hook Common thence to and taking the houses in Hook Street thence to and taking Holt Farm and the cottages near and on thence back to Hetherow thence to and including at terminating with the public house near Up Nately church.

The population had risen to 271 including two visitors. The acreage of the six farms had reduced a little since the last census to 541 acres and there were only seven people listed as receiving parish relief. Blacksmiths, wheelwrights, agricultural engineers, a machinist and iron founder suggest a continued connection with the Hook foundry.  For the first time a school mistress was listed and commercial concerns such as a post office, grocer and butcher had developed together with the public house, the Bricklayers Arms. Three of the four brickmakers lived close to the pub.
