Census 1851

This comprises the whole of the extra parochial place of Andwell containing Andwell Farm, Andwell Mill and the two cottages near the mill.

The population of 30 were dominated by seven members of the Platt family at Andwell Farm and 12 members of the Birmingham family living at the Mill. As all the children were born in Andwell, the eldest being aged 21, this would suggest a long term occupation of the mill by the same family. The remainder of the working men were agricultural labourers and one shepherd.
