Will and Inventory of John Barnard, 1619

Barnard also had a house at Crondall, which he left to his eldest son, James. His estate was valued at £63, almost half of which was in cash. However, his bequests to his children, payable on marriage and at age 21, amounted to £50. His inventory included “tools” in the shop and wood valued at 10s. 6d., which suggests that he was a carpenter, just as the corn and livestock indicate that he also ran a small farm.
