1861 census

In 1861 the population had marginally increased to 111 (seven visitors not included) living in 19 households; 62 male and 49 female, a similar gender ratio to that in 1851.There were 15 married couples, two widowers and two widows. 29 residents had been born in Farleigh Wallop, 44 in surrounding parishes, 35 in other parts of Hampshire and 13 outside the county. New occupations included two carpenters and three shepherds. 22 children attended school (oldest 13 years), a large increase from 1851.
Occupants of prominent houses:
Farleigh House. A new tenant, Mrs. Routh, a widow and two daughters and only three resident staff including an Italian & Swiss born couple.
Farleigh Farm. Robert Brown had six children and employed a nurse, nursemaid, housemaid, cook and, unusually for a farmer, a governess, There were eight live-in workers including a shepherd and a groom.
[Home] Farm. William Box employed 10 labourers, a considerable reduction from 27 in 1851. He had one resident servant; two agricultural labourers and five carters/carter boys lived-in.
