Will and Inventory of Francis Prince, yeoman, 1557

Prince lived only 13 years after William Prince, his father (d. 1544), but increased his sheep holding from 150 to over 340. His extensive inventory was valued at over £216. It includes many interesting details including references to the cloth industry and curious items such as 60lbs of lead. He had grout (a mix of herbs to flavour beer) tubs, brewing vats and 10 bushels of malt in the malt house. Prince must have been the largest farmer in the parish but it is not certain which farm was his.
