1901 census

The whole of the civil parish of Steventon comprising cottages at Deane Gate, Cheesedown Farm, Peak Hill House, the Rectory, cottages near railway, Steventon Warren, Steventon Manor House and Steventon village. In 1901 there were 14 agricultural labourers, nine carters and four cattlemen, four shepherds, one bailiff, one farm foreman and three gamekeepers, who reflected the increased importance of gaming rights. The woods continued to be important with three woodmen employed. The population fell to 229 in 1901 in 56 houses.
