Census 1851

The total population was 353 of whom 304 were born in Hampshire which reflects a fairly stable  population. The main occupation was farming with six farmers. This census is particularly useful as it indicates both the acreage of the farms and the number of employees. The parish also had two mills. An indication of the social status of the residents can be gained from the number of servants employed.
The Rector was from Cumberland, appointed by the patron of the living, Queen’s College Oxford, which took students from north west England.
