Will of James Potter, rector of Newnham and Mapledurwell, 1658

Potter was rector of Newnham and Mapledurwell. Normally the rectors were fellows of Queen's College, Oxford who were patrons of the living and recruited from north-west England but Potter was an exception to this and came from Wiltshire but we do not know why. He was a substantial landowner with possessions scattered over southern England. He does not appear to have been married. His bequests to the poor were generous.
