Will & inventory of Roland Upton, yeoman, 1614
Rowland Upton was clearly a man of considerable status who appointed two gentlemen as his supervisors including James Deane of Basingstoke. He left money for highway repairs. Why he possessed eight oxen and steers is not clear. Perhaps they were used for local transport. He also had three horses.
