Street Lighting in Minehead and Dunster

By the mid 19th century the area’s growing popularity with visitors, often from towns where street lighting was commonplace, probably fuelled demands for lighting in the area. Dunster and Timberscombe had oil lamps until the mid 20th century but by the 1870s Minehead's streets were lit by gas.
