Timberscombe Endowed School

In 1804 the new trustees decided to build the school and the foundation was laid the following year. In 1825 45 boys and 35 girls attended daily and on Sundays. They were taught reading, writing, arithmetic and the catechism according to Bell’s system, the girls also learnt needlework and some children received clothing. By 1846 the school was teaching 57 children daily and on Sundays and another 7 children attended on Sunday only. It was suggested the school could provide places for children from two other parishes.
