Will and inventory of John Newell, 1602

Newell was a wealthy farmer with £187 worth of goods. His farm was clearly mixed in nature with sheep (118 valued at £23), cattle (11 valued at £19) and crops (wheat, barley, oats and dredge valued at £60.75). He also possessed four plough horses. Newell also had a dung pot reflecting his awareness of the need to manure the soil for increased fertility. His will was written in 1601.
