Transcription of 1881 census

The population in 1881 was 335, an increase from the previous census (166 male and 169 female). There were 59 married couples and 6 widows or widowers.  2 of the 71 houses were unoccupied. A more mobile population is apparent with only 106 occupants natives of Cliddesden, 183 residents born elsewhere in Hampshire and 46 people who had come from places as far distant as Norfolk, York and Durham (often as servants). Agricultural labourer remained the most common occupation (50), domestic servants increased (42), new occupations included postmistress, auctioneer and labourer in foundry.
