Transcription of 1861 census

The population in 1861 was 320 (165 male and 155 female). There were 45 married couples and 11 widows or widowers. 10 new houses since the previous census gave a total of 69, all but one of which were occupied. 154 inhabitants had been born in Cliddesden, 140 elsewhere in Hampshire and 26 people had come from further afield. The occupations of the parishioners were becoming more diverse but were still mainly based around agriculture. There were 5 farmers, 42 agricultural labourers, 7 shepherds and 1 dairyman and boy. 18 domestic servants were employed in the larger houses of the parish.
