The Inventory of James Withycombe

The Withycombes had farmed in Carhampton parish for centuries and had been tenants of Marshwood since the late 17th century. They were gentleman farmers and many amassed considerable wealth. When James Withycombe died in 1800 his goods were valued at over £8,500 and his inventory took two days to compile.
