Bampton Street inventories, Minehead

Bampton Street had a mixture of large houses and small, the former mostly at the north end, unsurprisingly its occupants’ economic status varied greatly. This was a street of town houses even many large and wealthy homes had no gardens and a few on the west side had no courtyard worthy of mentioning in surveys.
This was a period of increasing population and pressure on accommodation and several houses had been subdivided by the later 17th century.
