Will and inventory of Richard Aclowe alias Taylor, husbandman, 1551

Aclowe’s will gives no indication of why he was known by different surnames. The Taylor family was very important in Mapledurwell at the end of the Middle Ages. He possessed significant numbers of cattle and sheep. It could be that Taylor was his wife’s family name as he wanted her to keep all the cattle and crops which she brought to the marriage. The will is in a poor condition and parts are impossible to read. There is an inventory but it is almost completely illegible.
