Will and inventory of Richard Ifold, millwright, 1614.

The Ifold (Ifould) or Ivold family were copyholders of Corpus Christi copyhold number 16, of which the house was Rye Cottage. This has been dated to 1487 by dendrochronology and is the oldest surviving building in Mapledurwell. Richard was a named life on the copyhold in 1612 but never held the copyhold. Mapledurwell did not have a mill but perhaps he was employed at nearby Andwell Mill. It is a pity that the assessors valued only ‘his working tools’ without listing them individually.
