Leigh Road Methodist Sunday School, Street

The nonconformists provided adult education especially the Quaker Sabbath Day school from 1859, which admitted 593 men and women between 1859 and 1866, and the Wesleyan Methodist evening school between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The Wesleyan Methodist church in Silver Lane, later Godswell Road, was inadequate for the congregation and Sunday school, which had 243 children on the books in 1890. A new church in Leigh Road was opened in 1893 and in 1895—6 the Sunday school was added behind with an assembly hall and 10 classrooms on two floors.
