Castle Street, Bridgwater, former Harbour Master's house

This house on the SE corner of Castle Street and West Quay is part of the duke of Chandos's 1720s development comprising shorter terraces of more modest houses than those at the upper end of the street. This house is only a shallow house of three bays with a modest door surround. A shop front was inserted probably in the early 19th century but like many houses in the street it contains many original features including the upper section of the staircase.
