West End of the fustian mill, Stringer Street

This shows the west end of the same mill; all the windows are of steel with stone lintels. The doorway may also have originally been a window later cut-out as a doorway. Between 1959 and 1987 the textile company of William Stannards took over the premises producing clothing and small wares for a worldwide market.
During the Second World War the ARP used part of the mill as their Headquarters and stores, there was a stage inside where concerts were performed for locals and troops. There are also to be seen some 1940s style telephone line insulators on the mill walls. Today the mill has a non-textile use.
