Grave cross of Sir Alfred Trevelyan

Sir Alfred Trevelyan (d. 1891), whose mother was Irish, was a Roman Catholic and was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. He was buried at Nettlecombe beside the stream which flows through the churchyard and his grave was marked by this Irish-style cross. A male entail prevented his daughters inheriting Nettlecombe.
