Grove Place chapel, Alcombe

This chapel was built in 1861 as a Congregational chapel but by 1874 it was an Anglican chapel where matins and evensong were celebrated every Sunday and in 1880 the chapel was decorated with frescoes by Kate May. Services were briefly discontinued in 1892 and the chapel was stripped of its valuables, a 1573 chalice and a 1713 pewter paten as well as a pocket communion set given in 1891, although the furniture including an oak reredos, desk, lectern and organ remained. By 1896 evening services were again held there and the congregation decided to raise money for a permanent church.
