Former Methodist school and chapel, Carhampton

A Wesleyan chapel, right in picture, was built in 1839 and a day school began in 1869. In 1890 the school was rebuilt with one classroom, flush toilets, and a teacher’s house. Most of its £28 endowment was paid to the teacher. In 1903 the school was well conducted but only had 13 children and although numbers increased slightly the school closed in 1915 and amalgamated with the Council school. A large number of children attended the chapel Sunday school in the early 20th century. the school building is now a house.
