Methodism in Minehead and Dunster

John Wesley is said to have preached on the shore at Minehead in 1744 and visited again in 1745. Rowland Hill preached at Dunster and Minehead in 1771 and there was said to be a Methodist meeting house in the 1780s but it must have been short lived. It was in the early 19th century that Methodism became established in the area.
