Curtain tower, Dunster Castle

Parts of the medieval wall and a ruined tower survive on the north side of the garden court in front of the house. These are the remains of the 13th-century castle built to replace the Norman keep. The tower was retained and altered in the 18th century as an ornament to the Green Court created c.1764 by Henry Fownes Luttrell as a level lawn on the site of the old bailey or lower ward of the castle.
