Former stores in Alcombe

Alcombe developed during the 19th century from a tiny village to a larger one; first with genteel houses and later with industry and new streets of terraced housing. Shops opened to serve the growing population, especially in the early 20th century and by 1910 4 shops were recorded at Alcombe and 13 by 1928. Several in the old village centre, like this one, have closed with the development of supermarket shopping
