Will of Robert Danford, 1593

This is a transcript of the will of Robert Danford, dated 20 February 1592/3.
Although no occupation is given for him, he was probably a woodworker of some sort. Twenty-one people owed him money, suggesting he was in trade. As well as a few farming items, he left many woodworking tools, such as axes, chisels, augers and a block saw or skull. He may have been one of the woodwards of the manor, as a court held on 12 october 1591 recorded that 'no tenant, resident or inhabitant of any house within the manor has cut down any [trees] in woods called Birchwood, Peal?myll hill, Holywell hill and Howles heath beyond what was necessary so that no one living an a cottage in the manor should cut down any trees without licence and permission of William Turner, John Bralle, Thomas Wheler and Robert Danford or one of them in said woods, on pain of 3s. 34d. for each offence' (Herefs RO AM33/7).
