The Farm in Mapledurwell

The Farm in Mapledurwell was the homestead of a former copyhold of Mapledurwell Manor held of Corpus Christi College in Oxford.

Of the surviving internal timber-framed construction there are two bays of a good quality farmhouse wing on three floors. Date 1600-1650. It would appear that this was probably a residential cross-wing to a missing or rebuilt service wing and hall.’ Langdon’s map of 1616, together with the presence of the three ground floor rooms shown in addition to service rooms in the inventories of the Smith family in 1632 and 1639, confirms the cross-wing structure. Taken together, these factors suggest the survival of a cross wing of c1600-1616. The brickwork of this large house is of several different phases.
