Eastrop Farm House in Up Nately

Eastrop Farm House in Up Nately was the homestead of a former copyhold of Mapledurwell Manor held of Corpus Christi College in Oxford

The brick wing at the front of this house conceals a timber-framed structure. It retains two bays of what was probably a 3-bay yeoman’s house of the first quarter of the 16th century. This fits well with the 'newly-built' tag ['de novo edificat'] applied to it in William Frost's rental of 1513. An axial stack and lobby entry were inserted at the low end of the hall in the early 17th century. The original parlour bay may have been replaced when the smart front wing was built. Former owners stated that the date ‘1837’ is inscribed on two separate beams in this wing, suggesting that it was added in that year; the brick extension was described as ‘rather recently erected’ in a valuation of 1859
