Bishop's Palace, Wells: conduit house

In the 15th century Bishop Bekyngton arranged for water to be supplied from the wells, which spring up in the pond in the palace garden and give the city its name. A conduit house was built and several sluices, which controlled the flow of water to channels in the High Streets before rejoining the river Sheppey.
