Kingweston chancel angel

A feature of the elaborately carved chancel, probably by Davis of Taunton, is the profusion of large angels; some support the roof but others like this one emerge from the chancel walls surrounded by foliage. A similar angel carries a chalice and their grouping around the sanctuary is clearly meant to emphasise the centrality of Holy Communion in the high Anglican tradition in which this church was built and decorated.
